The FDS Project

The Free Digital Society Project (FDS) is a project started to help with the free (freedom) software movement. We are very supportive of free
and open-source software. We are are also heavily inspired by existing free software projects like the Free Software Foundation and the
Open Source Initiative. The main goal is to bring ultimate computer software freedom for all.

We urge everyone to switch from proprietary software to free and open-source software for a number of reasons, most of which are for
freedom.

Free software means that all users have the freedom to run the software the way they want, modify the software, and to distribute the software.
Free software means freedom and liberty, not free of cost.

Help us eliminate the Microsoft Windows operating system

Windows is the leading operating system for desktop users, however it violoates the users freedom, malware, and spyware for your computer.

It is malware because Microsoft heavily violates the users freedom by restricting every nook and crany and hiding all the source code. It is
proprietary and closed-source, which means the user has no freedom. It is pretty much a prison for your computer.

Open source means the source code is public. Source code is the actual code that gets converted into an executable. Microsoft only gives
executables to the user, no source code. Technically, executables can be reverse-engineered back to source code, but big and heavy programs
are virtually impossible to reverse-engineer. Since Microsoft hides their source code, who knows what they are putting in their code? If a company
has truly nothing to hide, then why hide their source code? Microsoft thinks their operating system is nice, even though users have no freedom.

Microsoft Windows is also spyware. Spyware is software that spies on the users, Windows helps Microsoft do exactly that.

There are numerous times Microsoft has been caught spying on it's users.
Global Device Identifier (GDID) is a hidden hardware fingerprint embedded deep in the Microsoft Windows registry that tracks your physical machine
across various online accounts, websites, and logins while bypassing the standard privacy tools like VPNs and firewalls. Windows Recall is an AI-driven
tool built into the newer Windows PCs that takes screenshots of your desktop every few seconds to log your entire digital history, pretty much
capturing sensitive passwords, private chats, and financial data in a local database that security experts have proven that it is vulnerable to
extraction. OS Telemetry refers to background services in Windows 10 and 11 that continuously track what applications you open, how long you use
them, and your general interaction habits, linking this kind of behavior and data to real-world identities through forced Microsoft Account sign-ins.
Forced Cloud Integration is an ecosystem design where services like OneDrive and the Microsoft Edge browser are enabled by default or aggressively
pushed during setup, resulting in the automated indexing and uploading of your local documents to cloud servers and the transmission of your web
browsing history back to Microsoft.

You can help us by:
Installing GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux is the most popular free and open-source operating system. You can help us by installing this on your computers,
which can help use lower the userbase of Windows. Popular distributions are Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora.
Persuade your government. Email or letter your government about the Modulon Software Foundation and the FDS Project. Persuade them to switch
Windows to a GNU/Linux distribution or a free and open-source BSD distribution.
Install the Edubuntu GNU/Linux operating system to school computers. Edubuntu is a GNU/Linux distribution that ships with a lot of education
based software, which are all free and open-source. If you do not want today's kids being spied on by Microsoft, then take action and act now! Help
us install Edubuntu to school laptops and PCs.
To install properly, I recommend a minimal install on computers that are at 4 gigabytes of RAM. If the computer is a student laptop, then name the
user "student". If the computer is for a teacher, then name the user "teacher". Make the password the same as the username. I recommend setting
the panel icon size to 40, and put the panel to the bottom. If you want, add a plain text document on what the password how to connect to the school
internet, since most people do not know how to use GNU/Linux.

Help us eliminate Digital Restrictions Managment

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a set of software used by companies to control access to copyrighted content and hardware. We and other free
software projects call it "Digital Restrictions Managment" since it restricts the user and violates the user's freedom. It turns the idea into
buying digital content into renting content inside a software prison. Not only does it restrict the user, but it also sucks at doing it's job.
The MSF thinks we should help eliminate DRM for all.

How you can help us

You can help us by boycotting DRM and using software that has no DRM. Even better, use software that supports the Anti-DRM movement. You
can also buy or download content that advertises as non DRM/DRM-free. You can also generally show your support for the DRM Elimination movement by
the MSF.

Help us end software patents

The only people who benefit from software patents are the creator of said software and patent lawyers. Even though most software patents are registered
by tech companies, these companies will constantly infringe other people’s patents and get legal. Software users and engineers have argued that
software development hasn’t gotten anywhere since the creation and enforcement of these software patents.

It is said that software is different when it comes to patent law, because of it's cheap costs. The MSF is an non-profit organization where the main
project is the FDS Project, which is all about computer user freedom.

Help us protect software freedom and eliminate software patents. It highly violates the user's freedom by putting a patent on software, software
is just complex math, and every computer user should have freedom.

Help us free JavaScript

Help us persuade companies, schools, and governments, to make their websites not require users to run any nonfree and proprietary JavaScript.
JavaScript programs make menus, buttons, and other elements for other features of these websites, so browsers usually come with the instruction to
download and execute them without notifying the user. Even though these JavaScript programs are hidden, they are still proprietary and closed-source
nonfree code being executed on your computer and they violate your freedom.

You can help us by boycotting nonfree JavaScript, and start installing free JavaScript browser extentions.
